A special session of IYL at the opening ceremony of SIMFP2015 organized by University of Jazan in Saudi Arabia (February 2015)

The Fourth Saudi International Meeting on Frontiers of Physics (SIMFP) was organized by the Department of Physics at Jazan University, Saudi Arabia, during 17-19 February 2015. The meeting aimed to bring together researchers and scientists from Saudi Arabia and abroad to exchange new ideas, share their experiences, discuss their latest achievements, and present their results in all aspects of new frontiers of physics with particular emphasis on interdisciplinary aspects.
This meeting coincided with the celebration of the International Year of Light IYL 2015 under the auspices of the UNESCO. This component would be featuring exciting demonstrations regarding light and fascinating presentations at a popular science level offered by world-class scientists visiting Jazan University both from other Saudi institutions and from around the world. Prof. Dirk Poelman from Ghent University, Belgium and Dr. Benoit Darquie from Université Paris 13, France gave a talk entitled ‘’ Light in our daily life and ‘’ and ‘’ the laser fountain and other popularization experiments developed at Laboratoire de Physique des lasers, respectively.
